Little Explorers is a limited place special needs environment providing primary provision for children within the full spectrum of intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Down Syndrome, traumatic brain injury, and other syndromes associated with I/DD.
The building we use is a two storey purpose built construction and its fabulous facilities include spacious day room, library room, sensory room, therapy room, toilet and shower room and a fully accessible sensory garden.
Education and the pedagogy of teaching is something that is continuously changing and developing. Is there really a completely correct and right way to teach everyone? Simply, no.Â
There is not one uniform approach that can be taken in education and especially in Special educational needs (SEN) provisions as learning is such an individual and personal journey.Â
Therefore, at Little Explorers we prefer to take elements from several different practices and theories to create our own amalgamation of excellent teaching theories and practices that fully benefit the children’s holistic and academic development.Â
Our teachers can make the session a more welcoming and less distracting environment helping pupils to not feeling overload.
The use of pictures or symbols to represent events. By providing them visual prompts to help children understand what they are being asked to do. The use of desired items to help children choose what they want.
At Little Explorers, we break routines into different steps and chain them together using visual and verbal prompts. We use reinforcement to encourage children to complete each step in the routine.
At Little Explorers we use rewards and incentive to encourage desired behaviors. We provide appropriate feedback and just be fun and individualized to the child's needs and challenge.
At Little Explorers, we are using Individualized Education Plan (IEPs) which we create personalized learning plans with accommodations like extra time on tests, frequent breaks, preferred seating, and modified assignment to cater their specific needs.
We implement strategies like positive reinforcement, clear instructions, visual aids, and movement breaks to help children to stay focused and engaged.
Little Explorersl provide opportunities to interact with peers, learn social skills, and build friendships, which can be challenging for children with ADHD but crucial for overall well-being.
A predictable school schedule with clear expectations can help children with ADHD manage their iimpulsivity and stay organized.
Our teachers at Little Explorers create activities that can help children practice important executive functions like planning, time management, self-regulation. At the same time with appropriate support, children can experience success at Little Explorers boosting their confidence and self-worth.
